Completed a detailed visual inspection of a 90%+ high-efficiency Navien combination gas boiler located in the basement.

Upon arrival, the thermostat was set approximately 5°F above the current room temperature to initiate a call for space heating. The Navien boiler responded properly and fired without issue. System operation was observed during the heating call, and the boiler was functioning acceptably at the time of inspection.

Inspected accessible boiler wiring, electrical connections, controls, piping, venting, condensate components, and other associated components. No immediate operating failure was observed during testing.
Descaling service includes isolating the domestic hot water side of the Navien combi boiler, connecting a flushing pump and service hoses, circulating an approved descaling solution through the domestic heat exchanger, and allowing the solution to break down internal mineral and scale deposits.

After the cleaning process is completed, the heat exchanger is thoroughly flushed with clean water to remove remaining descaling solution and loosened debris. Service valves and connections are then returned to their normal operating positions, and the system is tested for proper domestic hot water operation and leaks.

Routine descaling is recommended as preventive maintenance to help maintain proper water flow, improve heat-transfer performance, reduce strain on internal components, and help extend the service life of the Navien combi boiler.
Recommend replacement of the flame sensor on the 90%+ high-efficiency Navien combination gas boiler due to visible corrosion and deterioration.

During inspection, corrosion was observed on the flame sensor, which can interfere with the sensor’s ability to properly detect and verify burner flame. A compromised flame sensor may result in intermittent ignition problems, nuisance shutdowns, flame-loss faults, repeated cycling, or failure of the boiler to remain operating.
