Replace Failed Boiler Aquastat / High-Limit Control

Evergreen Services was called to the property to evaluate an oil-fired boiler due to the customer hearing abnormal noises from the heating system.

Upon evaluation, our Service Expert found the boiler operating at an excessively high temperature and beginning to produce steam, which was causing the noises reported by the customer.

Further testing determined that the existing aquastat/high-limit control had failed and was not shutting the oil burner down when the boiler reached its high-limit temperature setting. This allowed the burner to continue operating beyond the intended operating temperature.

Due to the aquastat being a primary operating and safety control for the boiler, Evergreen Services recommends replacement of the failed aquastat.

Proposed Work:

* Shut down electrical power to the boiler and oil burner.
* Remove the existing failed aquastat/high-limit control.
* Furnish and install a new properly rated replacement aquastat.
* Reconnect all existing low-voltage and line-voltage wiring as required.
* Set the boiler operating and high-limit temperatures to the proper settings.
* Restore power and bring the boiler up to operating temperature.
* Verify the burner shuts down properly when the high-limit setting is reached.
* Test boiler operation through a complete heating cycle.
* Inspect the system for proper operation and verify that the boiler is no longer overheating or producing steam.

Important: The existing aquastat has failed to shut the burner down on high limit, allowing the boiler to operate at an unsafe/excessive temperature. Replacement of the failed control is recommended before continued normal operation of the heating system.

This quote does not include replacement of the well (where the Temperature probe is reading). This well could also be compromised but without removal of the relay there is no way to determine if it is in good condition or not. May need to replace well alongside R
